The Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon is organised by Lakeland Events CIC and is a two day mountain navigation event held annually in the Lake District. Teams of two choose from seven courses of varying distance and technical difficulty, combining mountain running, navigation and an overnight camp in one of the UK's most respected mountain marathon events.
Competitors navigate between checkpoints using map and compass while crossing challenging fell terrain in often remote areas of the Lake District. Each team carries its own lightweight camping and mandatory safety equipment, with courses designed to test endurance, route choice and navigation skills in changing mountain conditions.
The event is run on a not for profit basis, with proceeds supporting the Brathay Trust. Experienced volunteers oversee the event throughout the weekend, while overnight camping, carefully planned courses and a strong mountain running tradition make the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon a classic fixture in the fell running calendar.
