Why Run The Rye?

It's coming home! Nice Work brings Rye Summer Series to their home town...

Leading race management company, Nice Work, is thrilled to announce that their hometown – the historic and picturesque town of Rye in East Sussex – will once again host a series of road and trail runs this summer, starting with the Rye Summer Classic Series 10K this Friday, 4th August 2023.

The series will conclude with the Rye Summer Classic Series 5K on Friday 1st September and the Rye Ancient Trails 30K & 15K multi-terrain races on Sunday 10th September 2023.

Nice Work was established in 1989 as a small family business that started by organising the Beckley 10K. The team grew with the popularity of running events into the large company it is today. Based in Rye, Nice Work delivers over 200 events each year, attracting more than 50,000 entries.

So, why run the Rye? The Rye Summer Classic Series 10K and 5K races take place within the stunning Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, one of Britain’s most important conservation sites (pictured above). The races provide a wonderful opportunity to see the rare coastal landscape, covering a mosaic of interlocking shingle ridges, salt marsh, intertidal grazing, reed beds, and saline lagoons. The Friday evening time slot is perfect for catching a superb summer sunset and there is a great pub 200m from the finish line!

Rye Ancient Trails 30K & 15K races are held on a stunning route that weaves through ancient trails in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex. This ever-popular event traverses historic woodland paths and the quiet country lanes that link the Norman churches of Rye, Iden, Beckley, Northiam, and Peasmarsh. Rye Ancient Trails 15K/30K also raises funds for the Oliver Curd Trust, providing holiday accommodation to families affected by childhood cancer.

"We are thrilled to host these next few Nice Work races in our vibrant home town of Rye", said Rachael Wood, Managing Director of Nice Work. "These events not only encourage an active and healthy lifestyle but also foster a strong sense of community. We invite all running enthusiasts, local residents, and visitors alike to join us for a fantastic day/evening of racing and camaraderie".

Registration for the Rye Summer Classic Series is open and can be completed via the Nice Work website here. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to be part of Rye's premier running events. Entries may be available on the day at £20 for the 10K on Friday night.
