Time To Run The Edge

Run the Edge returns this summer, promising a coastal running adventure...

Millom Striders are set to host their third annual Run the Edge, a breathtaking multi-terrain running festival that showcases the stunning Cumbrian coastline. Taking place along the Cumbrian Coastal Path, this popular event offers runners the chance to experience some of the most spectacular views in the region, including the Duddon Estuary, the Southern Lakeland fells, and iconic peaks such as Blackcombe, Whitecombe, Coniston Old Man, and Scafell Pike.

The 1 June event features two distances—a longer 11.4K route and a shorter 5K option, both starting and finishing at The Ski Bar in Port Haverigg. Runners on the shorter route will follow the Haverigg Sea Wall before looping back, while those tackling the longer course will continue further along the Coastal Path towards Millom before returning. A family fun run is also included, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

This event was originally conceived as part of Connecting Cumbria’s Hidden Coast Programme, funded by the Coastal Communities Fund and Sellafield Ltd, with the aim of encouraging exploration of Copeland’s art, culture, and heritage through the natural environment.

Organisers say: "Runners can expect stunning coastal views, the soothing sounds of the waves, well-marked routes, enthusiastic marshals, and an unbeatable post-race experience. Finishers will receive an eye-catching race medal and a goody bag packed with treats, while the Event Village will be buzzing with music, food vans, and a fantastic atmosphere."
