Richard Burton 10K is an established road race held in Cwmavon, near Port Talbot in South Wales. Named in honour of the celebrated Welsh actor, the event began as a memorial fun run in 1982 before adopting Richard Burton's name in 1983. It has since developed into a major community running occasion, with proceeds supporting local charities and organisations.
Starting outside Cwmavon Community Centre, the 10K follows roads through the village and surrounding Afan Valley. The course features a mixture of climbs, descents and faster stretches, providing a more demanding challenge than a flat city road race. Road closures allow runners to compete through the community, with local supporters contributing to the atmosphere along the route.
The race is chip timed, with marshals, medical support and refreshments provided. Finishers receive a commemorative T-shirt and locally inspired goodies, while an event village offers food, entertainment and facilities for runners and spectators. The supporting Kevin Webber Mini Miler provides a shorter, family friendly running opportunity.
