The Railway Ultra starts from the former railway line behind The Woodbridge Inn in Coalport. The route follows the banks of the River Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth along the disused railway line, offering scenic river views and reminders of the area's industrial heritage. Runners can choose from 9 miles, Half Marathon, 19 miles, 28 miles or the 37 mile ultra, with the longer distances completed over repeated out-and-back laps.

Organised by How Hard Can It Be Events, the race features well stocked aid stations every 4.7 miles, giving regular support throughout the course. The 37 mile event starts at 08:30, with all other distances beginning at 09:00, and participants have a seven hour cut off to complete their chosen distance. Parking is available nearby, with cafés, pubs and accommodation within walking distance of the start.
