Back On Base!
Fast, flat 10K makes a welcome return to the race calendar after a two year absence...
The RAF Shawbury 10K Airfield Race is set to return on 28 March 2026 after a two-year break, bringing one of Shropshire’s most distinctive running events back to the calendar. Staged on the operational RAF Shawbury airfield, the race offers a rare opportunity to run on flat, fast, fully tarmacked surfaces that are perfect for chasing a personal best.
Organisers are pitching the event as an ideal early-season target, whether for runners preparing for the 2026 marathon season, beginners looking for their first challenge or seasoned club runners eager to test themselves against strong competition. Elite athletes are also expected to line up, creating a competitive field for those wanting to push their limits.
A 1K fun run for children will take place on the day, making it a family-friendly event. All 10K finishers will receive a medal and a goody bag at the end of the race and there willl be an event village featuring local food and drink vendors alongside stalls promoting sport and fitness.
£5 from every entry will be donated to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, ensuring the race continues its tradition of supporting RAF personnel and their families. The most recent edition in 2023 raised £2,886.32 for the RAF Benevolent Fund and saw 240 runners take on the cold conditions with impressive results and plenty of smiles at the finish.
