New Race Takes Off
Grab the chance to run down Shobdon Aerodrome's runway this spring...
New for 2025, Herefordshire's Race the Runway gives participants a rare opportunity to run along the runway at Shobdon Aerodrome, but don't be fooled - the 10K route includes surrounding farmland and features some steady climbs, gravel tracks and field margins.
The event is scheduled for 12 April, with organisers saying: "This unique event invites participants of all ages and abilities to experience the thrill of running on an active airfield. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun day out, this is a chance to challenge yourself while enjoying the beautiful surroundings."
There are some glorious views of the surrounding Herefordshire countryside and the last 836 metres to the finish line is along the runway itself - we have been assured it will be closed to planes on race day!
There is also a 2K fun run which starts at the end of the runway and takes participants past the hangers and tower to the far end of the runway before running down the entire runway to the finish line. This is a great opportunity to get a 2K PB but is also ideal for new runners or anyone who wants to take it a bit steady and enjoy the chance to walk/jog/run on a runway.
A soft or hot drink and snack will be included for all runners and refreshments will be available to purchase from the fabulous Megs Cafe for everyone who comes along. All participants in both the 10K and the fun run will be entered into a prize draw to win a 20 minute trial flight in a two seater plane to be taken on a future date.
