Lakeland Series Makes Its Comeback

After a two-year absence this fell running series will make its return in 2022...

After a two year absence popular fell race series, the Lakes Grand Prix, returns in 2022 with the first race (Black Combe) scheduled to take place this Saturday (March 5).

The series consists of eight Lakeland fell races which are spread across the fell running season, culminating with the Three Shires in September. Each race is supported by Pete Bland Sports and Inov8 with some great prizes up for grabs for series winners.

The Lakes Grand Prix was initially started in 2017 as a six-race series and was brought about by the late Pete Bland and son Matt over a coffee at their shop in Kendal. It was seen as an opportunity to pull classic Lakeland fell races together into one master series while also providing the opportunity to support local fell races and clubs.

Since its inception the series has gone from strength to strength and this year sees the event grow to include eight races, these are:

The Kentmere Horseshoe event will be particularly poignant race as it is organised by the Bland family in memory of the late Pete Bland, who sadly lost his life due to COVID in 2020.
