Just like Greek marathon runners, the original hill runners may well have been those chosen by their King or Chieftan to carry important messages across Scotland, or indeed across the border. Oban’s Hill Race is run over 2.25 miles with a total ascent of 500 feet. The Hill Race is one of the highlights of the games with the crowds enthusiastically cheering the winner’s final exhausting circuit.
