New Trail Race For Greater Manchester
A new trail race is coming to the Mellor and Roman Lakes countryside this spring...
There's a new trail race for the Greater Manchester area this spring, with news that Mellor Lacrosse Club will be staging a 10K Trail Run on 17 March. The Mellor 10K Trail Run will see runners take on a course around the wonderful countryside of Mellor and Roman Lakes.
Speaking about their new event, organisers commented: "The Mellor 10K Trail Run is an excellent opportunity to get active and support a good cause. The event is open to runners of all abilities, so whether you're a seasoned athlete or a beginner looking for a challenge, you're welcome to take part.
"The route takes you through some of the most beautiful countryside in the area, with stunning views and a mix of challenging hills and flat stretches."
With over 300 meters of ascent, the 10K is a hilly but runnable trail run on the Stockport/High Peak border. Starting at Mellor Sports Club with a short section along the road, the fully marked and marshalled route quickly picks up the off-road tracks and descends into the Goyt Valley for the relatively ‘flat’ run through to Strines. It is after this that the fun begins!
A climb of around 230 metres over the next 3.5K takes runners out of the valley, past the hamlet of Brookbottom and out over Mellor Moor. From the iconic Mellor Cross, the route drops down to Mellor Golf Course before heading back through Knowle Woods to the finish at the Sports Club.
Organisers continue: "Expect happy and helpful marshals, a variety of terrain and surfaces to keep things interesting, and plenty of mud!"
There will be free professional race photos out on the course - so remember to smile and there will also be a wooden medal for all finishers. Post-run food and drink available to purchase at Mellor Sports Club.
