New Summer Series For North East
Scenic forest trail challenge heads to the North East this summer...
Runners in the North East of Scotland can look forward to a thrilling new challenge this summer with Bennachie Summer Series heading to the stunning woodland trails at the foot of the region’s most iconic hill.
Taking place on the second Thursday of each month from June to September, the series features a 5K trail race set against the backdrop of Bennachie’s ancient forest and dramatic ridgeline. The dates for the 2025 edition are confirmed as 12 June, 10 July, 14 August and 11 September, with each race beginning at 7pm.
Organised as a fun, accessible and scenic midweek trail series, the Bennachie Summer Series invites runners of all abilities to test themselves on the rolling forest tracks that wind through the foothills of this much-loved Aberdeenshire landmark. With approximately 120m of elevation gain per race, participants can expect a rewarding challenge without extreme climbs.
The format of the series encourages both consistency and enjoyment, with the final rankings based on each runner’s best three times out of the four events. This flexible approach means runners who may need to miss a race can still be competitive in the overall standings. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers across the series.
Bennachie is a haven for wildlife including red squirrels and a variety of bird species, making it an inspiring setting for trail running. Whether you’re chasing a summer trail PB or simply looking to spend more time immersed in nature, this four-race series offers a perfect blend of challenge and setting.
