The Morven Hill Race is a classic Deeside hill race starting at Groddie near Dinnet in Aberdeenshire. The full 8.8K route climbs directly towards the summit of Morven, following tracks above Balhennie before reaching the top and returning on a separate descent towards the finish.
Runners tackle approximately 660m of climbing, with steep ground on the ascent and a technical descent providing a demanding test on the hill. The route is marked throughout, while full race participants are required to carry waterproof body cover, a hat, gloves, a paper map and compass as part of the mandatory safety kit.
Two shorter races take place alongside the full Morven. The 4K Half Morven climbs around 400m and is open to adults as well as eligible junior categories, providing a shorter introduction to hill racing, while the 1.8K Mini Morven features 125m of climbing on an out and back course for younger runners.
