Montane Lakeland 50 is a 50 mile trail ultra starting at Dalemain Estate near Penrith and finishing in Coniston. Following the second half of the renowned Lakeland 100 course, the route passes Ullswater, Haweswater, Long Sleddale, Kentmere, Ambleside, Langdale and Tilberthwaite, covering rugged mountain trails with almost 3,000 metres of ascent.
Organised by Lakeland 100, the event features six fully staffed checkpoints providing food and drink along the route, with a generous 24 hour time limit that allows both runners and walkers to complete the challenge. Competitors are transported by coach from Coniston to the start, with their vehicles and personal belongings waiting at the finish.
The demanding terrain, remote landscapes and iconic Lake District scenery make this one of Britain's most respected ultra distance events. From lakeside paths to high mountain passes, the route delivers a rewarding challenge and an unforgettable journey across the fells.
