The Luss Highland Games Hill Race takes place as part of the historic Luss Highland Games on the western shore of Loch Lomond. First held in 1875, the Games combine traditional Highland sports with running, cycling, piping and dancing, while the hill race remains one of the day's most demanding competitions.
The route climbs steeply from the games field onto Beinn Dubh, following hill paths to the summit before returning by the same route. The challenging ascent is rewarded with panoramic views across Loch Lomond and the surrounding hills, while the fast descent tests runners' strength, footing and confidence on uneven terrain.
The hill race forms part of a full programme of Highland Games events and attracts both experienced hill runners and local competitors. A lively crowd, traditional Scottish atmosphere and spectacular setting make it one of the most distinctive hill races on the summer calendar.
