The Luss Highland Games 5K, known as the De'il Tak the Hindmost, takes place as part of the historic Luss Highland Games on the shores of Loch Lomond. First held in 1875, the Games are among Scotland's oldest Highland gatherings, with the 5K adding a distinctive running challenge to a full programme of traditional sporting events.
Unlike a conventional 5K, the De'il Tak the Hindmost is an elimination race held on a closed road circuit through the village. At the end of each lap the last placed runner is eliminated, with the remaining competitors continuing until only one runner is left to claim victory. The tactical format creates an exciting contest for runners and spectators alike.
The race forms part of a day celebrating Highland sport and culture, alongside hill running, cycling, heavy events, piping and Highland dancing. Set against the backdrop of Loch Lomond, it offers one of the most unusual and memorable 5K races in the Scottish running calendar.
