Lone Wolf South West is a 24 hour trail endurance challenge based at Exeter Racecourse and taking runners into Haldon Forest. Participants start a forest loop every hour on the hour, with the freedom to decide how many laps they complete during the event rather than committing to a fixed race distance.
Each loop must be completed within 60 minutes for a runner to continue into the next hour, with any remaining time available for resting, eating and preparing for the next start. The route follows undulating forest tracks and trails through Haldon Forest, creating a repeated off road challenge where pacing and recovery become increasingly important as the hours progress.
The format allows runners to build towards their own distance goals, from shorter challenges through marathon distance and into ultramarathon territory. Those continuing through all 24 hours face a final lap in which finishing position determines the Lone Wolf champions, adding a competitive conclusion to an event centred on endurance, consistency and resilience.
