Steely Determination In Wales
Tata Steel announced as the headline partner of Llanelli Half Marathon...
Tata Steel has agreed to a two-year sponsorship deal with race organisers of the Llanelli Half Marathon, which will be held on Sunday 25 February 2024. Tata Steel has been making packaging in Trostre, Llanelli since 1952 and continues to produce the steel for food and drink cans, aerosols, and many other goods used by consumers throughout the UK and the world.
One the largest employers in Carmarthenshire, Tata Steel has a proud history of sponsoring and supporting events internationally that focus on sports, arts, and culture. The Tata Group has helped to power the running revolution through sponsorship. TCS, part of the Tata Group, also sponsors the World Marathon Majors, including the London Marathon.
Adrian Davies at Tata Steel said: “We believe in making a difference in the communities we serve. One of the ways we do this is through events that promote sports and improve wellbeing, cultural integration, and education. Partnering with the Llanelli Half Marathon and 10K events is a wonderful way for us at Tata Steel to increase our engagement with the community, raise funds for charity, and promote the benefits of health and wellbeing".
Tata Steel Llanelli Half Marathon is a UKA-certified event featuring a fast, undulating course that takes in some of the best coastal scenery Carmarthenshire has to offer. The event will include a brand new 10K race to support the main race and act as a stepping stone to 13.1 miles for future participants.
Emma Martin-Jewell at Front Runner Events said: “We are very excited to welcome Tata Steel as our title partner and look forward to working together over the next two years. I know the team at Tata Steel is passionate about health and wellbeing and is keen to support charitable causes, which are values we very much admire. Their support will help enable us to develop the races further and allow us to build upon its successes to date.”
Last year's Llanelli Half Marathon saw 574 runners complete the course inside four hours and there were victories for Harry Waring (unattached, 1:14:52) and former 2:34:12 marathoner Caryl Edwards (W35 Swansea Harriers, 1:19:53).
General entries start at just £24/£26 for the 10K or £38/£40 for the Half Marathon. Those wishing to run for charity can do so through the official race charity at Hywel Dda Health Charities. Just head to the Llanelli Half Marathon website to find out more!
