Leeds 10K Set To Be A Scorcher

Yorkshire will celebrate one of its largest and most popular sporting events this Sunday (8 July) when it hosts the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K. And it looks likely that the 7,000 strong field will be in for some testing conditions with the warm weather (temperatures around 27-29°) predicted to last through the weekend.

Part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, the event has raised over £4m during its 12 year history. Among those taking part will be former England and Leeds Rhinos rugby league greats Jamie Peacock and Rob Burrow, plus, Sky Sports’ Bryn Law.

Sunday’s field will start at the top of Vicar Lane, opposite the Grand Arcade, and move towards Call Lane and Sovereign Street, along Wellington Street and out along Kirkstall Road. Participants will then head back into town along Kirkstall Road and continue into the city to finish outside Leeds Town Hall on The Headrow.

Mandy Rivett, co-ordinator of the Asda Foundation, said: “From the moment the children in the mini and junior run cross the start line until the last person crosses the finish line of the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K, the city can look forward to a great weekend of running.

“The atmosphere is always excellent and it’s inspiring to see so many runners of all abilities turning out to support some excellent charities. Good luck to everyone.”

Look out for runABC North’s race report early next week.
