Kirkcaldy Entries Close Soon!
Don't miss out on the chance to take part in Fife's only half marathon next month...
Have you entered Fife's only half marathon yet? Set for the last weekend in August the Kirkcaldy Half Marathon will be taking place on the Sunday as part of the wider Kirkcaldy Parks Running Festival which runs 26/27 August. If you're keen, you'll need to be quick as entries close at midnight on 31 July.
This year the event will be hosting the East District Half Marathon Championships which race organisers have said is a real 'endorsement of the race and Kirkcaldy in general'. The half marathon takes in some of the town’s famous landmarks including Beveridge Park, Dunnikier Park and Ravenscraig Park as well as the beautiful coastal path with stunning sea views.
The final few miles also take in the newly refurbished Waterfront where there is a flat measured mile used for the local running clubs and walkers to enjoy. Organisers have said of the route: "Also included in the route are free hills; fast flats and downhills for that elusive PB search!"
If you're after a trail race then there is a 5 (and a bit) mile trail offering on the Saturday. This event utilises Dunnikier Park. Organisers comment: "Our idea is to encourage people to explore and enjoy the parks around Kirkcaldy and, in keeping with that concept, we are moving this year’s event to Dunnikier. The route will be approimately 5 miles starting in the grounds of the park before heading out through the gently undulating surrounding woodland areas and the tracks around the outside of the golf course."
Adding to the festival atmosphere, there will also be a fun run for family and friends during the half marathon and event village with food and stalls. Speaking about their event, a spokesperson from the Festival committee said: "This will be the third running of our event with Derek Rae winning in 2019 in 1:10:23 and Sheena Logan taking first female in 1:24:44.
"We came back in 2022 with Ryan Lafferty winning in 1:13:49 and Rhona Van Rensburg first female in 1:27:53. So that's Fife AC with a pretty strong hold on the last two events taking first male and female both years. I wonder what this year will bring..."
