Kilmarnock Halloween Running Festival set to be a Real Treat

Celebrate ‘Killiween’ with the whole family this weekend

The people of Kilmarnock will be celebrating Halloween not once but twice again this year: first with their best tricks and treats on Friday, as local custom dictates, and then again with two charity races on the date the rest of the world observes.

The 2021 edition of the Kilmarnock Halloween Running Festival will be held on Sunday, 31 October, in memory of Ruby Young, one of Kilmarnock Harriers’ most popular members.

In its 30 years, the event has raised more than £39,600 for charity.

A treat for the whole family, the spooky festivities at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena will start with Ruby’s One Mile Fun Run (10.30am) on the track and Halloween games for the kids. All participants are whole-heartedly encouraged to wear fancy dress, for which there will be special prizes.

For older runners, the Ruby Young Monarch Financial Services 5K Road Race will start at 10.45am for walkers and 11.00am for runners. The route will make a figure of eight course starting and finishing on the track, and take in both roads and trails around the Arena.

Entries to both events are strictly limited – 100 for the Fun Run and 200 for the 5K – and will be available online until 30 October. Entries on the day will only be accepted if those limits are not reached.

All proceeds from the Festival will go to Ayrshire Cancer Support.
