The Kilburn Kanter is a 24 mile challenge through the Hambleton Hills, organised by the North Yorkshire group of the Long Distance Walkers Association. Starting and finishing at Kilburn Village Institute, the circular route features around 3,500ft of ascent and must be completed within a 10 hour time limit.
Runners set off in a separate mass start before the walkers and follow the full route through the North Yorkshire countryside. The course passes Cold Kirby, Tylas Farm, Hawnby, High Paradise, Boltby, Gormire Lake, Sutton Bank and the White Horse before returning to Kilburn, with entrants required to visit the designated checkpoints along the way.
This is a self reliant long distance challenge rather than a conventional road race, with navigation skills and compulsory kit required. Refreshments are provided along the route, while the combination of sustained distance, significant climbing and the varied Hambleton Hills landscape makes the Kilburn Kanter a demanding day out for experienced runners and walkers.
