Isle of Man Marathon & Half Marathon

View all races for Aug 2026

The Altenar Isle of Man Marathon & Half Marathon is organised by the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes' Club and takes place in Ramsey in the north of the island. Both races follow the established Manx Northern course, with the Marathon completing almost two laps and the Half Marathon one circuit.

The opening miles are undulating, with the route climbing gradually before becoming predominantly flat for the remainder of each lap. Runners travel through the countryside north of Ramsey before returning towards the town and finishing inside Ballacloan Stadium. The course is accurately measured and marked at mile intervals, with water stations positioned regularly throughout.

Both races are chip timed and supported by marshals, first aid and race officials, while race headquarters at Ballacloan Stadium provides changing rooms, toilets and showers. Walkers are welcome in both distances, subject to the Marathon time limit.

The Marathon also incorporates the Isle of Man Marathon Championship, adding a competitive local element to an event that combines scenic road running, long established organisation and a distinctive island setting.
