Lakeland Trails in Helvellyn features 15K, 10K and 5K trail events starting and finishing beside Ullswater in Glenridding. The routes explore the foothills of Helvellyn, surrounded by some of the Lake District National Park’s highest and most dramatic fells.
Runners follow well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways through ancient woodland and open countryside, with elevated views across Ullswater and towards Helvellyn and the surrounding peaks. Conditions underfoot are generally good for experienced off road runners but can become tricky in places, while short sections of tarmac link the predominantly trail based routes.
The 15K distance is available as both a Trail Challenge and a Trail Race, providing separate starts alongside the 10K Trail Run and 5K Sport Trail. The varied terrain, mountain scenery and lakeside setting create a distinctive Lake District trail running experience for a range of abilities.
