Hellhole 5 Mile Trail Race is organised by Derwentside Athletic Club and follows a challenging course through the countryside around Stanley in County Durham.
Starting on the Sustrans cycle path near Orchard Grove, the route combines former railway paths, woodland tracks, open fields and short tarmac sections. The undulating course features approximately 500ft of climbing, with varied surfaces and potentially muddy conditions adding to the challenge. The mixture of woodland scenery and countryside trails provides an enjoyable but demanding race over the 5 mile distance.
The event is an established fixture on the local running calendar, attracting club runners and recreational competitors. Race registration takes place at The Ball Alley Pub, with parking available at Shield Row School. The varied course and welcoming club atmosphere make Hellhole a distinctive autumn race in the North East.
