The ATW Hatfield 5 is an established five mile road race in Hertfordshire, known for its exceptionally flat and fast course. Starting and finishing at the University of Hertfordshire's College Lane Campus, the event also hosts the Herts County Senior Championships, attracting club runners and athletes looking to achieve a personal best.
The route begins along College Lane before joining the Alban Way, passing through Wilkins Green Lane, Smallford Lane and Sleapcross Gardens. Runners then follow the straight, level A414 footpath and Comet Way before returning along the Alban Way towards the finish. With very little climbing throughout, the course provides excellent conditions for maintaining a steady pace and chasing a fast time.
Participants can expect a welcoming atmosphere, custom designed finisher medals, free event photographs and refreshments at the finish. Free parking is available at the venue, and runners can also support Alzheimer's Research UK through optional fundraising. The combination of a quick course and county championship competition makes the Hatfield 5 a popular fixture for runners of different abilities.
