Hardmoors 26.2 Farndale Trail Races are organised by Jonathan and Shirley Steele as part of the Hardmoors race series, with circular routes starting from Hutton le Hole in the North York Moors National Park.
The event offers a Trail Marathon of approximately 29 miles with 4,200ft of ascent, a Half Marathon of approximately 16.5 miles with 2,300ft, and a 10K route of approximately 8.3 miles with 1,130ft. All three explore the trails, moorland and countryside surrounding Farndale.
Navigation is an important part of the challenge. The courses are not generally taped or signed, so competitors use downloadable maps, route descriptions and GPX files to find their way around the routes. Mandatory safety equipment is required, with kit checks before runners start. Checkpoints and generous time limits support competitors across the demanding terrain, and finishers receive a medal.
