In At The Deep End At The 25th Hardwick X-Stream Race

Happy 25th Anniversary At Hardwick

Come on in, the water’s lovely was all the encouragement runners needed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hardwick X-Stream race as over 200 participants went with the flow at Sunday’s (18 February) special event.

Organised by Bearbrook Running Club, this annual event is a challenging 6 mile, off-road race held at Manor House Farm in Hardwick, Buckinghamshire. Runners followed a marked and marshalled route that went across country and through streams that were tougher than usual due to recent downpours. Rope assisted climbing proved to be very useful at one of the water crossings.

Dermot Martin of Bearbrook Running Club claimed his first ever race win, crossing the line in 38:37. Rich Coles of Gade Valley Harriers made an impressive debut, taking second place in 39:00 with Jeremy Vick of Marshall Milton Keynes AC third in 39:21.

Lynda Hembury of Tring Running Club won the women’s race in 46:23 and to rapturous applause by her teammates many of whom took part in this event. Sam Suter of Alchester Running Club was second in 47:31 followed by Sharon Hill in 49:04.

Clubs had the option to enter a team or several in this race containing a minimum of four runners. Marlow Striders men were the fastest male team while a team of women from host club Bearbrook Running Club retained their title for the second consecutive year.

All finishers were presented with a bottle of beer or cider and a commemorative medal which included a handy bottle opener.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped make their 25th race a memorable occasion.
