The Grand Canal Canter is a multi distance running event based at Tiverton Canal Basin, with Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K routes following the Grand Western Canal through the Mid Devon countryside. Each distance uses the canal path on an out and back course, providing a peaceful traffic free setting beside the water.
Runners can expect a flat and fast course on hard packed gravel canal paths with very little climbing. The Half Marathon has approximately 90ft of ascent, while the Marathon has around 180ft. The 10K turns at Tiverton Bridge, while the longer distances continue further along the canal before returning towards Tiverton.
All finishers receive a bespoke Grand Canal Canter medal. The event is cupless, with water available approximately every three miles for runners to refill their own bottle, cup or hydration pack. Cut off times apply to each distance, including six hours and 30 minutes for the Marathon.
