The Goyt Valley Challenge takes runners and walkers through the Western Peak District on a choice of 26.2 and 14.3 mile routes. Starting and finishing at Buxton Community School, both routes explore the upland countryside around Buxton and the Goyt Valley, with plenty of climbing and stretches across open moorland.
The 26.2 mile route includes around 4,000ft of ascent and passes Axe Edge, the Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor and Fernilee Dam. The 14.3 mile route has around 2,000ft of ascent, heading to Axe Edge and the Goyt Valley before returning to Buxton via Fernilee Dam. The combination of climbs, moorland paths and changing underfoot conditions makes both routes a rewarding test of endurance.
Staggered starts accommodate slower walkers, walkers and runners, with refreshments available at checkpoints along the way and a hot meal at the finish. Participants should come prepared for exposed Peak District conditions and carry suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing and navigational equipment for the route.
