Christine Ohuruogu to be guest of honour at this year's Scottish Athletics annual awards...
Scottish Athletics has confirmed that Olympic and World Champion Christine Ohuruogu will be the Guest of Honour at this year’s 4J Annual Awards. The event, which recognises and celebrates the athletics community across Scotland, will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on 29 November.
Tickets are now on sale for the gala evening, priced at £57 per person, and the night promises to be a celebration of athletes, coaches, clubs, volunteers and officials who make such a vital contribution to the sport. Awards will also be presented across four jogscotland categories, highlighting the impact of the programme on communities across the country.
Christine Ohuruogu, one of Britain’s greatest sprint athletes, said she was honoured to have been invited: “I am really looking forward to my visit to Scotland. My understanding is that as well as revealing the Athlete of the Year and Para Athlete of the Year awards, there will also be recognition on the night for coaches, clubs, volunteers and officials. I am excited to hear more about these on the night because I feel it is so important to celebrate and acknowledge areas right across the full spectrum of the sport.”
Ohuruogu is best known for her Olympic 400m title in Beijing in 2008, World Championship gold in Osaka in 2007 and again in Moscow in 2013, as well as multiple relay medals at global level. Since retiring from competitive athletics in 2017, she has studied law and taken on board positions with several sporting organisations.
The 4J Annual Awards will run alongside the National Club Conference, also being staged on 29 November, making the date one of the most important in the Scottish athletics calendar. Nominations for the awards are now open and can be submitted online at the Scottish Athletics website.
