The Exmoor Perambulation is one of Britain's oldest endurance events, tracing its origins back more than 725 years. Held within Exmoor National Park, the event features 15 mile and 30 mile trail runs alongside 15 mile and 30 mile long distance walks, following the historic boundary of the Royal Forest of Exmoor. Open to both runners and walkers, it combines endurance, navigation and a unique connection to Exmoor's rich heritage.
The self navigated routes pass through remote moorland, open commons, ancient tracks and spectacular countryside, with much of the course crossing land that is normally inaccessible to the public. Participants navigate using maps, GPX files and route descriptions rather than waymarked trails, creating a rewarding challenge that tests route finding as well as endurance while showcasing some of the wildest scenery in south west England.
Starting from the Pinkery Centre near Simonsbath, the Exmoor Perambulation is supported by staffed checkpoints, professional event organisation and a long established tradition dating back centuries. Combining challenging terrain, outstanding landscapes and a remarkable historical legacy, it remains one of the UK's most distinctive trail running and long distance walking events.
