Winter Excalibur takes runners into the Clwydian Hills for challenging 10K and 17K trail races over Moel Famau. Both routes follow trails and footpaths through the North Wales landscape, with steep climbing, technical sections and extensive views from the higher ground.
The 17K is the tougher option, covering 17.38km with 843m of ascent, while the 10K packs 412m of climbing into the shorter route. Runners pass through the landscape around Moel Famau and the famous Jubilee Tower, with the longer challenge also taking in Iron Age hillforts. Both courses are fully signed, with checkpoints, marshals and Mountain Rescue support.
Navigation remains part of the challenge, with runners required to carry a supplied route map and compass alongside mandatory weather and safety kit. Canicross entries are available for both distances, while checkpoints provide water and snacks along the course and all routes finish back at Coed Moel Famau.
