Runners At The Wye Valley 10 Mile

England victory at Wye Valley Runners 10 Mile Road Race

It was the best of British from Marcus England at the Wye Valley Runners 10 Mile Road Race (Sunday 19 August) as the Cheltenham & County Harrier took the top spot at this classic event in Herefordshire.

England won in 56:39, adding this to his bronze medal at the Midland Counties 10000m Championships (14 August) and a PB at the Summer Speedway 10K (17 June). Barry Reynolds was second in 57:42 followed by England’s teammate Eliot Taylor in 58:09. All in all, a successful outing for Cheltenham & County Harriers with first and third places to their credit.

Caroline Warrington of Bromsgrove & Redditch AC won the women’s race in 1:11:17. Cross country champion Gemma Mallett of Croft Ambrey RC came second in 1:11:42 with Annabelle McCourt of Evesham RC third in 1:12:16.

The last runner crossed the line in 1:44:42.

One of only a few 10 mile races in the country the race is oorganised by Wye Valley Runners who wanted others to have the opportunity of racing at this distance. It was added to the Herefordshire running diary in 2012 and poses a tough challenge in the form of a single lap, hilly course on country roads around the apple orchards in Breinton Village. It started and finished at Hereford Rowing Club and there was a memento for every runner.

The race is part of the Super 10 series from Wye Valley Runners with the next event, the County Championships 1 Mile on 29 August.
