Countdown to first running of Deveron Valley Half Marathon
With just 12 days to go until the inaugural Deveron Valley Half Marathon (Sunday, 9 September), race organisers are reminding runners that there’s still time to sign up.
Organised by Deveron Harriers, the brand-new event is suitable for runners of all levels, and is set to welcome entrants from all over the country.
The scenic, multi-terrain Aberdeenshire route will follow the River Deveron from Turriff to Banff – mainly following quiet roads along the Number 1 National Cycle Route and peaceful woodland trails.
Along the way runners will enjoy great views of some fantastic local landmarks and scenery, like the spectacular Bridge of Alvah and the grounds of Duff House, including the ice house, mausoleum and the House itself.
The race will finish with a testing climb up to the recently opened all-weather track at the Deveron Sports and Community Centre campus – and then a lap around it.
Deveron Harrier and one of the main organisers of the Deveron Valley Half Marathon, Bob Barron, told runABC Scotland online:
“We trialled the route last year with runners from local clubs, and it was a real success. I cycle and run the route a lot and know how rewarding (and challenging) it can be. It is multi-terrain, so while the race starts on road, the latter part is on wooded trails.”
“We decided to hold it in September as it’s a good time of year for most runners – and avoids any other local runs. We’re really excited by the sign-ups so far.”
“There’s still time to enter via EntryCentral, and we’re looking forward to seeing runners of all abilities on the day.”
The organisers are also delighted to be supported by local businesses like Structured Financial Planning, Alba Sports Nutrition, Motive Offshore Group, The Spotty Bag Shop, Interior Inspirations and RunBalmoral.
The first ever Deveron Valley Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, 2 September, with an 11am start. Entries are limited to 200 and close online on 2 September.
