The Detroit Free Press Marathon is the centrepiece of a major running weekend in Detroit, with a programme spanning the marathon, two half marathons and shorter races. Its signature international routes cross between the United States and Canada, giving runners the unusual experience of racing through two countries as part of one event.
Marathon runners follow a 26.2 mile road course showcasing Detroit and its distinctive neighbourhoods, including historic Woodbridge, the District Detroit, Eastern Market and the Dequindre Cut. The International Half Marathon shares the international character of the main race, while the Motor City Half Marathon provides another option for runners looking to experience the streets and neighbourhoods of Detroit over 13.1 miles.
