The David Shepherd Memorial Glamaig Hill Race is a classic Scottish hill race held on the Isle of Skye, starting and finishing at the Sligachan Hotel. Covering 4.5 miles with approximately 2,500 feet of ascent, the race is renowned as one of Scotland's toughest short hill races and attracts experienced fell and hill runners from across the UK.
The Category A course climbs directly to the summit of Glamaig before returning to Sligachan, tackling steep, rocky terrain that demands strong climbing ability, confident descending skills and sound mountain judgement. Competitors are required to carry or wear mandatory windproof clothing, with full waterproof body cover also required when weather conditions dictate.
Organised under Scottish hill running rules, the race is supported by the Sligachan Hotel and forms part of a day of fundraising activities for Skye Mountain Rescue Team. Combining a challenging mountain route, dramatic Cuillin scenery and a long standing tradition, the Glamaig Hill Race is one of the UK's most iconic hill running events.
