Auchterarder Running Festival 2020 Goes Virtual

Organisers promise to bring their ARF 'Double Dare party' to runners

Rather than cancel their event due to the current coronavirus pandemic, the organisers of the Auchterarder Running Festival will be bringing participants their first (‘and hopefully only’) ARF virtual event later this year.

It’s not the first time Aucherterarder-based Five Star Active have taken a different tack when organising their events. In 2019 year they moved the dates of their popular 10k and Half to a week before their new 'Chili' trail race to create the first ARF 2019, held over two November weekends.

The 2020 Auchterarder Running Festival – made up of a 10K and a Half Marathon – will take place between midnight on Thursday, 10 September and 7pm Sunday, 13 September 2020.

All participants need to do to take part after registering is print out their race bibs and then walk, run or jog the two qualifying distances at any time between the festival dates.

When their runs are completed, participants – who must be aged 17 or older – should upload their efforts and keep an eye on the live leaderboard as the weekend unfolds.

All entrants will receive either a bespoke 10K or Half Marathon specific medal, depending on their event, and a one-off ARF Virtual 2020 branded snood. Those taking on both distances will also receive a third ‘ultra nostalgic Virtual Double Dare medal’ in recognition of their ‘amazing double dare’ efforts.

In line with the ‘sense of fun’ they’ve brought to their ‘real life’ events, Five Star Active also promise many to announce many more ‘surprises’ on social media over the weeks leading up to ‘race’ weekend, to make the 2020 Virtual ARF ‘as memorable and interactive [an] experience’ as they can.

The virtual prize giving – dishing out overall prizes as well as age category prizes – will commence at 8pm on Sunday, 13 September on ‘Facebook live’.

With over a third of entries already sold in the fortnight since the event was launched, the Virtual ARF is proving almost as popular as its real-life 2019 relative, which sold out in just 24 hours.

Online entries for the remaining places close on Wednesday, 9 September.
