The Culbin Forest 8 Hour Challenge is a timed trail running event organised by NU Limits Running in Culbin Forest, near Forres in Moray. Rather than racing over a fixed distance, participants aim to complete as many laps as possible within the time limit, making the event suitable for a range of endurance goals.
Each lap covers 4.367 miles along forest trails, with approximately 135 feet of ascent per circuit. Three laps make up a Half Marathon, six laps a Marathon and seven or more laps take runners into ultra marathon territory. The woodland setting and repeated circuit allow runners to manage their pace and decide how far they want to go.
The event operates from a central Basecamp where runners can store equipment, access refreshments and receive support between laps. Electronic wristband timing records individual lap times and total distance, while finishers receive an event bag after completing their challenge.
