The Criffel Hill Race is organised by Dumfries Running Club and takes place from the village of New Abbey in Dumfries and Galloway. Covering 11K with 550 metres of ascent, the race climbs directly to the summit of Criffel before returning to the finish on the descent. Traditionally held in March, it is one of the established fixtures in the Scottish hill running calendar.
Despite its relatively short distance, the course presents a demanding test of climbing strength, descending skill and hill running experience across rough terrain. The summit rewards runners with outstanding views over the Solway Firth before a fast return to New Abbey, making the race a popular challenge for experienced hill runners and those looking to step up from trail running.
