The Creag Dhubh Hill Race takes place as part of the Newtonmore Highland Games in the Scottish Highlands. First introduced in 1947, it has become one of Scotland's best known hill races, attracting experienced fell and hill runners to compete alongside the traditional Highland Games programme.
The 7K course begins with a lap of the games field before heading across fields, fences and a river towards Creag Dhubh. A steep climb on forest tracks and narrow hill paths leads to the summit before a fast and technical descent returns runners through the same obstacles and back to the finish arena.
The race is fully marshalled and forms one of the highlights of the Highland Games, creating a unique atmosphere with spectators lining the finish field. Its combination of traditional Highland Games heritage, challenging terrain and spectacular scenery has earned it a special place in the Scottish hill racing calendar.
