Great Sprout Scuttle

Christmas Trilogy Awaits

There are three fantastic race options at this December favourite in North Lincs...

Celebrate all things festive and 'sprouty' at this year's Great Sprout Scuttle which is set to take place at Lincolnshire's Normanby Hall on 17 December as part of a fantastic trilogy of Christmas-themed events.

Normanby Hall Country Park in Scunthorpe is the venue for The Great Sprout Scuttle along with Rudolph’s Revenge and The Pyjama Express Family Fun 3K.

The fun-filled festivities are organised by Curly’s Athletes with Lindsey Lodge Hospice the charity partner. Runners can expect an action-packed, lively day in the company of like-minded others (including dogs!) and receive a medal featuring all three events.

It all begins with the Great Sprout Scuttle 5K and 10K. The 5K is open to canicross runners who speed away from the start at 10.50am followed by the rest of the field at 11am to complete one loop of the course. It could be bone dry underfoot or more than likely wet and muddy but the views are lovely whatever the weather. This is a trail run in fantastic surroundings on a lovely course with potential to spot some deer!

Next up is the fun festive family fun run, organisers tell us: "For 2023 we will be partnering up with Lindsey Lodge to bring a special Pyjama Express twist to this event. So get your jim jams ready! You can bring the family, the dog, the grandparents and everyone else for this 3K festive walk, jog, wheel, woof or run.

"Our interactive 3K will see participants enjoy a themed route and you can also expect to enjoy themed stalls, candy canes, cookies and hot chocolate. Keeping with the Polar Express theme, those taking part can get their ticket stamped (and visit our very own train)."

At 5pm it’s the turn of Rudolph’s Revenge, a 10K trail run in the dark, through the woods and past the deer park with plenty of atmosphere. Head torches are a must for this one. Organisers say: "We know Santa only picks the best of the best to pull his sleigh, so this course was designed by lead reindeer Rudolph, to make sure the sleigh team has 'the right stuff' to deliver the best Christmas ever!"

Any runner looking to test themselves before Christmas can do the ‘Super Santa’ and enter all three events. It makes a change from the office ‘Secret Santa’...
