The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K follows a single loop from Berkhamsted into the heart of the Chilterns, taking runners through Berkhamsted Common and the Ashridge Estate before joining the Ridgeway National Trail towards Aldbury and Wendover.
With around 800m of climbing, the course mixes rolling and hilly trails, woodland paths and more intricate single track. From Wendover, runners pick up the Chiltern Way for the return towards Ashridge, finishing with a downhill approach back into Berkhamsted. The route is fully marked and supported by three main checkpoints plus an additional water point.
This 50K Chilterns trail ultra is a UTMB Index race with a nine hour time limit and chip timing with live results. Trail shoes are recommended for the varied terrain, which can become muddy in wet conditions, while the combination of the Ridgeway, Chiltern Way and Ashridge Estate provides a scenic long distance challenge.
