The Chevy Chase is organised by Wooler Running Club and is one of the UK's longest established fell races. Starting and finishing in Wooler, Northumberland, this classic 20 mile challenge has tested runners for generations with a demanding route through the heart of the Cheviot Hills.
The unmarked course features around 4,000 feet of ascent on tracks, footpaths, sheep trods and rough fell, with competitors choosing their own lines between mandatory checkpoints. Runners summit both Cheviot at 2,676 feet (815m), the highest point in Northumberland, and Hedgehope at 2,348 feet (714m). Fitness, sure footedness and confident navigation are essential, with conditions capable of changing rapidly on the open hills.
The event is held under ARC rules and is supported by experienced marshals, checkpoint teams and mountain rescue. Mandatory kit checks help ensure competitors are prepared for all weather conditions, while split times, refreshments and a welcoming atmosphere at the finish make the Chevy Chase one of the country's most respected traditional fell races.
