After celebrating its 10th anniversary race in 2022, the Chariots of Fire Beach Race will once again return to the shores of St Andrews's West Sands for another iconic outing. This year the event will take place on 4 June and with entries already open, this is your warning to hurry up and make sure you are a part of this fun and unique race.

A spokesperson from the organising committee said: "Annually, the event continues to attract both new and returning runners from all corners of the globe who love the friendly, local community welcome they receive in this enchanting corner of Fife.

"We welcome everybody, from the club runner looking for a Sunday shakedown, the parkrunner looking for a unique and individual event, the first time runner looking to try the sport for the first time, or just somebody wanting to relive Vangelis and run in an unique race in a very special location."

The race is a simple out and back 5K, runners do not have to be barefoot but are organisers say they are 'welcome to run through the waves should they wish' although you should bare in mind that this might affect your time! Just like in the movie, runners start and finish on the same West Sands location to the sweeping strains of Vangelis’ famous theme tune.

Runners don’t have to run barefoot like their Hollywood heroes, but they are encouraged to dress all in white as per the famous flick. Organisers say: "No one will stop you running if you don’t … but it’s much more fun … and makes for better photos if you run clad in all white! It also saves a lot of time retouching photos later on."


The race enjoys support from local businesses and so those taking part will be richly rewarded for their efforts. In the past four years every adult finishing has received a free beer (non-alcoholic/softs available if preferred), alongside the infamous fudge doughnut and medal!
