Buttermere Shepherd's Meet is a traditional Lake District fell running event based at Gatesgarth Farm in Buttermere. The programme includes a steep senior 5K alongside junior fell races, forming part of a low key traditional shepherd's meet in the surrounding Cumbrian fells.
Runners in the senior race tackle 5K with around 600 metres of climbing, creating a short but demanding fell running challenge. The course requires appropriate mountain experience, navigation and local knowledge, with the significant ascent over a relatively short distance giving the race its distinctive character.
Junior racing takes place before the senior event, with a 1K course featuring 80 metres of climb for U10 runners and a 2K course with 200 metres of climb for U12 and U14 runners. Older juniors can enter the senior race where eligible, making the event a compact programme of fell races for different age groups.
