Racing Round The Reservoir
Burrator 10K takes place in the 'jewel of Dartmoor'...
Burrator Reservoir, located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, is often described as the 'jewel of Dartmoor'. Burrator encompasses dramatic tors, open moorland, historic settlements and a Nature Reserve, offering a unique day out for families, nature enthusiasts, historians and Dartmoor lovers alike.
The round reservoir walk is 4.5 miles long and Burrator Discovery Centre is the staging post for many events and activities, including the Burrator 10K by Sportiva Events on Saturday 1 June 2024 – a runABC South Featured Event.
The Burrator 10K is run on a fast, flat route on fully closed roads. The route is almost entirely on tarmac and the spectacular start is on the Burrator Dam Bridge. The setting is stunning, but it’s also perfect for a PB!
The race starts a half-mile warm-up jog southeast of the Burrator Discovery Centre. Runners complete a loop of the reservoir plus two-thirds of a second loop before finishing a few hundred metres warm-down from the Race HQ at the Discovery Centre. There are just 90 metres of climbing on this course.
Last year there were 390 finishers in 1:26:37 and the winners were Oliver Oldfield (Tamar Trotters, 35:36) and Nikki Kelly (Tavistock AC, 36:28). The top 17 runners beat 40 minutes; exactly 100 were inside 50 minutes and 231 ducked under the hour.
The feature that sets Burrator 10K apart from other races is the unusual start time. This is a Saturday evening race starting at 6:30pm, with plenty of time for supporters to enjoy all the attractions and facilities on offer at Burrator Reservoir and the Discovery Centre before the race action begins.
The Sportiva Events race promotion package includes free professional event photos; electronic chip timing; distance markers; water stations with gels; medals for all finishers and the expertise of the dedicated events team built over hundreds of running and multi-sport promotions in Devon.
