Towering performances expected at Broadgate Tower Run Up

Top stair climbing athletes from all over the world are preparing to gather for The Broadgate Tower Run Up on Saturday (24 November) for the London leg of the prestigious Vertical World Circuit (VWC).

This thrilling skyscraper race is the eighth and penultimate VWC event for 2018. Broadgate Tower Run Up comprises 35 floors and 877 steps for a single stair climbing challenge, with 161 metres of ascent. However, some athletes will be tackling 12 climbs for a Vertical Mile!

The six hour programme starts at 9:00am with the male and female VWC Elite races and includes climbing challenges for individuals, families and even a special firefighters wave, with some of the competitors climbing in full breathing apparatus for the Firefighters Charity.

Organised by the UK’s leading stair climbing specialist events company, Total Motion Events, Broadgate Tower Run Up is a superb festival of stair climbing and the first of its kind in the UK. Children as young as 8 years will be climbing in the family wave and Total Motion Events are offering £250 worth of prizes to any male or female who can beat the winning elite times.

Elite entries have been received from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Spain, UAE, USA and UK to reflect the importance of Broadgate Tower Run Up on the VWC and among the global stair climbing community.

Elite males include the current 3rd in VWC Rankings, Omar Bekkali (Belgium), who will be facing the fastest UK Broadgate Tower runner, Mark Howard. Meanwhile, an interesting GB entrant is Adam “Tango” Holland, winner of over 220 marathons but an unknown quantity on the stairs. Female elites include another 3rd ranked VWC athlete, Cristina Bonacina (Italy) and current Broadgate Tower champion and course record holder, Sarah Frost (UK, 5:07).
