Brass Monkey Goes To The Ballot
Now's the time to try and secure a spot at one of Yorkshire's most popular half marathons...
If you've ever fancied your chances at York's Brass Monkey Half Marathon, but never been quick enough to bag yourself a spot at the sellout (within hours) event, then 2024 might finally see you achieve your dream as it moves to a ballot entry system.
The 2024 race will take place on 21 January at its usual York Racecourse venue. Speaking about the decision to move to a ballot process, organisers said: "Because the event always sells through very quickly it has been decided to trial a ballot entry process for 2024 instead of the mad dash for places in the queue.
"Applications into the ballot will open on Saturday 7 October at 9am but there's no need to rush, you’ll have until 11.59pm on Monday 16 October to apply, then on Tuesday 17th a random draw will take place."
Whether you are a keen club runner, doing your first half, or just running for fun, this road race is ideal. A flat and fast course with 1,750 places available heading southwards through Bishopthorpe, Acaster Selby, Appleton Roebuck and back through Bishopthorpe to finish behind the Racecourse grandstand.
It attracts runners from around the country thanks to the fast course, but also due to its slick organisation by York Knavesmire Harriers and top notch race day marshals, commenting on Facebook after a previous staging Michelle Marie Connelly said: "Thank you to all the marshals. They were the happiest marshals I’ve ever seen! Also this is the best organised race I’ve attended yet. Absolutely brilliant!"
