The Braemar Gathering Hill Race is one of Scotland's most prestigious hill races, held as part of the world famous Braemar Gathering. The approximately 3 mile course climbs 1,200 feet to the five cairns overlooking Braemar before descending back to the Gathering arena, where runners complete a lap of the field before finishing opposite the Royal Pavilion.
The race attracts competitors from across the UK and overseas, including elite hill runners, international athletes and members of the British Armed Forces. Weather permitting, a smoke flare marks the first male and female competitors reaching the summit, adding to the spectacle of this long established event.
