Organised by the Heart of England group of the Long Distance Walkers Association, the Birmingham Canal Canter takes place from Moseley Rugby Club in Birmingham. The event features Mini Canter 18.5 Mile, Canter Marathon 26.5 Mile and Maxi Canter 30 Mile routes, exploring the city's network of canals and rivers.
The circular routes follow sections of the Stratford Canal, Worcester and Birmingham Canal, Grand Union Canal and River Cole, with longer options including Edgbaston Reservoir, Soho Loop and Galton Valley. The mostly off road courses combine towpaths, waterways and industrial heritage landmarks with minimal ascent and descent.
The event provides checkpoints with food and drinks, hot and cold refreshments and a meal at the finish, with showers and free parking available at race headquarters. The mix of canal scenery, city landmarks and supportive organisation makes Birmingham Canal Canter a distinctive endurance event.
